Music and me started with family.  Surrounded from an early age by aunts, uncles, cousins and parents each with a distinct style and voice; I was unaware of how lucky I was to be surrounded by so much professional talent.  My mom and dad gave me my fist jazz albums, inspiring me to pick up the saxophone for a start in music.  My dad’s blues roots albums introduced me to the guttural delta blues gods who taught me about the guitar and the more visceral version of music in life.   My mom’s singing inspired me to open my mouth and see what would come out.  Music is and was always present in my life.

I’ve been circling the hidden corners of New York State and New York City for the past seven years, working a day job with the intention to leave the place cleaner than when I arrived as a geologist.  Always on the go and living in a behind the scenes world, observations have become a big part of my songwriting.  These themes mix in heavily with my personal life, most notably in the songs  “Vertical Drain” and “Crazy World”.  Both have emerged from snapshots of my life.

Bio

After moving to Brooklyn in 2010 I was working to continue a crafted sound, which took roots from an already musical family and also the need to be an original.  From a small few, to crowds as large as 3,000, I have performed my personal song’s to provide a snapshot into a life of heartbreak, love and loss.   Most recently, with the help of my friends, these songs have been transformed into a celebratory sound that flows through the veins of blues, folk and rock which has been greatly received by NYC audiences.

This new transformation is Sam and The Extinction, a riff from my background as geologist.  The Great Extinction refers to a time in history where the majority of life on earth disappeared for unknown or a little known reason.  It's inspiring to think of a past world that was almost completely destroyed but still exist today.  The mystery behind the great extinction, and our attempt to understand it ties into many themes in my music. Songs about life in a mysterious world have always intrigued me and will continue to inspire my writing.

Sam and The Extinction have a new album in the works!  Stay tuned to see how you can be a part of the project!

I work during the day; I get to play music at night.  Help me change this to I play music day and night.
